I don't support fixed ALPR cameras for the City of London. As an intelligence and surveillance specialist myself, I understand the invasiveness and risks of security of the person these bring to a free society. I believe in strict limitations on government intrusion into the lives of citizens and that the freedom to move freely MUST be inclusive of government's inability to track and capture your movement as well. The AI tools and data collection that these cameras interface with infringe our very basic rights and protections from state overreach.

I would vote against any procurement or usage of these devices in the City of London regardless of if it costs Londoners through municipal tax dollars or any other level of taxation.

Should ALPR cameras be approved in London despite my opposition, I would insist that any access or use of the data collected was subject to judicial warrant just as any other search and seizure proceedings would be by the police. These cameras are also subject to PIPEDA and must adhere to the strict rules governing when collection of electronic data of someone is collected or used.

Every separate policing entity that would want to utilize City of London ALPR data would have to be required to acquire a judicial warrant on a case by case basis. Access should be based on a case by case basis providing the strict adherence to the rule of law when seeking evidence in the investigation of criminal activity and data cannot be shared beyond the scope of that particular warrant without further warrant by inquiring agencies.

Yes. Regardless of my stance or that of anyone else, open and free discussion about everything is necessary for education and making informed decision. However, it is clear already that this is already an infringement of constitutional rights of the individual and public consultation must not sway the requirement of lawmakers to deny this use.

The City of London does not have any extra money. It continues to constantly raise the property tax on an already stretched thin citizenry. We need to stop spending on non-essentials anyway regardless of what level of government is picking the funds from your pocket.
