Sault Ste. Marie Police Service activated stationary ALPR cameras at the city's east and north entrances — Trunk Road and Great Northern Road — on June 13, 2022. Police Chief Hugh Stevenson told SooToday the system's cost would be offset by provincial grants, and Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner said it wasn't aware of any other Ontario community with a similar perimeter-camera setup.
