Fixed ALPRs installed

ALPR status

Waterloo Regional Police Service — which polices Kitchener along with Cambridge, Waterloo and area townships — launched fixed CCTV cameras equipped with ALPR technology, going live in Waterloo on June 23, 2026, with Kitchener intersections (including Fairway Road at Wilson Avenue and at Highway 8) following. Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic voted against the program at both the city and regional level, citing privacy concerns.
